5 Reasons You Don't Need to Be Nervous for Your Photo Shoot

5 Reasons You Don't Need to Be Nervous for Your Photo Shoot

I completely understand because even though I take photos, I don’t like being in front of a camera either. It’s a really vulnerable feeling, and that’s exactly why as a Norfolk and Suffolk family photographer, based in Lowestoft, I’ve designed my photography sessions to be different. I want to help you feel comfortable, confident, and, most importantly, have fun. Here are five common fears I hear from clients and how we can work through them together.

1. It's About Connection, Not Posing

Building a connection is so important to achieving natural photos which is why I will spend time getting to know you and your family. During our getting to know you session, I’ll ask about who is coming on the shoot, their ages and interests. Finding out this information ahead of time means that I can plan the shoot effectively so that everyone enjoys it and has fun.

2. No Stuffy Studio, Just Fresh Air

A highly-staged studio environment just isn't my style. Instead, I love using a Norfolk or Suffolk location that feels natural to you, which helps us capture your true personality without the pressure of a staged set. By being outside, children are able to be themselves, run around and play and interact with the adults with them. This in turn means that parents are more relaxed because their children can just be themselves and they haven't got to worry about them knocking over expensive equipment or doing silly smiles and not looking at the camera. That way we can capture the true beautiful authentic interactions between parents and children and grandparents.

3. I'll Be Your Guide

I know that many people feel awkward or unsure in front of a camera. You don’t have to be a model—that's my job! Your only job is to relax and have fun. As your guide from start to finish, I'm there to give you easy, natural-feeling directions, so you never have to worry about what you're supposed to be doing. I’m not a fan of rigid posing or saying 'cheese.' Instead, I give you and your family fun, natural-feeling directions. We might have the kids jump on Daddy's back, tickle Mummy, or have a race to see who can run to me the fastest. The truth is, these are my secret ways of helping you forget the camera is even there. When you're all focused on having fun together, that's when the most beautiful, authentic interactions happen. The result is genuine smiles and joyful moments that truly tell your family's story.

4. Embrace the "Real You"

Photography is not about the perfect shot. It's about capturing real emotions and that's the aim of any family shoot that I do. I want to see you interacting with each other, having fun. So, what do I mean about a 'perfect' image? It's an image that is perfectly authentic to you and really shows you as a family and how much you love each other. Our images are there for you to remember the little moments you've had as your children are growing up and getting older—memories for you to look back on for years to come.

5. Laughter Is My Secret Weapon

I truly believe that the best photos come from genuine, unposed moments. And nothing creates those moments better than laughter. I'm not afraid to act a little silly, pull a funny face, or tell a terrible joke to get a real, authentic reaction. It’s my secret weapon for helping you relax and have a good time, so your photos capture that wonderful, joyful feeling.
